Devils Lake - July 19-21

What a wild trip! On day one we only had one walleye in the box most of the day along with a few pike and white bass pulling spinners and crawlers. As a last-gasp effort at the end of the day, we tried jigging raps on a hump near deep water and really got into a good bite. We pulled 13 more keepers and a few throw-aways in about an hour to save the day.

Day two was super tough and super windy, but a 30-inch walleye makes any day an amazing one! Trying a new spot just trying to stay out of the wind, she nailed a Berkley Flicker Minnow on a deep road bed trolling slow at about 1.5 mph.

On day three we managed to pull an easy limit of solid walleye by slowing things down with slip bobbers and jigs with half crawlers. Anything moving the fish didn't care to chase, so we just hunkered down and pulled about thirty fish on one spot sorting out the little ones and keeping the 15-20's. Two days ago, jigging raps were the ticket, but that was just too aggressive today for whatever reason. Seems like no two days are even the same out here, but it sure is fun when you crack the code!
